He and his dumb voice gimmick are too valuable to Paramount for them to give up either, especially after the most recent TF movie they made was specifically for him and his gimmick.

And it was the movie version of Bumblebee that became the standout version of the character, then one that made Hasbro boatloads of money. Before then, Bumblebee was just another name in a long list of Average Joes that only the hardcore fans cared about, with his role having since been replaced by the likes of Cheetor and Hot Shot.

Like it or not, the first movie is what brought Bumblebee back into prominence and made him a household name for the brand. Sabrblade wrote:Was he, though? I think it was similar with the Decepticons back in 2007, all the Autobots were designed as those characters but Barricade/Blackout/Brawl all went through several different names including Soundwave for the former two cons, heck even though Hasbro sees Brawl as well Brawl the name Devastator ended up in the film because it was the name Bay preferred although 'officially' it's an error.

It probably depends on how prominent the characters are, if I recall Hound and Drift in AOE were always concepted as those characters with those names while Crosshairs was a design made first and such before his final name was decided on just that 'we have this Corvette Autobot'
